Digikeijs DR5000 01 Install, Connect, Drive a Train

Back in 2014 I wrote this post with some rambling on how to select a DCC Command Station. All of them do the job, this one has this feature and that one that … in the end it mainly becomes a personal preference. I chose the ESU ECoS … because I thought it ‘sexy’.

Today my choice would be different. For over a year now the Digikeijs DR5000 is on the market … I have never seen a DCC Command Station that packs so many different interfaces and data protocols in one box. Besides this wealth of connectivity, it also delivers max 3A of DCC current at a selectable output voltage (15-24V). All this comes at a very reasonable price somwhere around €150,-. And … in its own way it is sexy too, with all its blinking LED’s. 🙂

The video shows a detailed step by step software installation guide and within 6 minutes the first train is driving.

  1. Hello,
In order to be able to embark a system as basic as possible for exhibitions I would like to know if it is possible to set up the DR5000 so that it works autonomously with just a mobile with the Z21 app in wifi to drive a train ?

    • The initial setup will have to be done with a PC connected via USB. Once setup is finished and all settings are as you need them, it’s possible to operate stand alone and have your Z21 app connected via the wifi server built in the DR5000.

      • Hello Rudy,
        Thank you for your reply.
It sounds well for me but if I ask you this it’s because I tried and was not successful of course.
So I will try again and with you agreement, if it doesn’t run I will take o screenshot of each parameter menu and I will send it to you.
        Kind regards.
        JC

  3. Hello Rudy
I am glad I discovered your blog and videos. On the back of them I have bought Traincontroller (Bronze version at the moment). I have been trying to research the best DCC system for my needs and have been impressed by your review of the Digikreijs command station. However, I can find no mention of Digikreijs support in Traincontroller. Will these two work together and if so what do you choose under setup digital system in Traincontroller. I hope I am not being cheeky in asking but am floundering at the moment and would appreciate being pointed in the right direction (already made the mistake of buying a Sprog not realizing it didn’t have feedback input)

  4. Hello RudyB
Are you going to carry on with this video of the digikeijs
It would be great if you could set it up using s88 Arduino feedback system you are using
Also using Traincontroller interface with the digikeijs
You have been suburb in explaining the complexes of each unit you have, to a video
    for our viewing
    thank you

  5. I purchased a Roco Z21(Black) before I knew about the digikeijs products. I am still pleased with the Z21 but may have chosen differently had I known. But I have since purchased several digikeijs DR-4088RB’s (opto) for my feedback modules. They have 16 inputs each at a much lower cost than the Roco units that only have 8 inputs each.

  6. Hi, Can I use the DR5000 on the sniffer port of an ECoS ? Will the loconet traffic be passed to the ECoS ?

    • I haven’t tried yet, but I see no reason why it would not work. I did find with a Rocomaus that the ECoS sniffer sometimes had its quirks, but nothing real bad. Could be a nice way to give the ECoS a loconet as well as Xpressnet connection, be it via a lil detour. Also you canconnect the DR5000 to a programming tract and program CV’s from your computer screen, something the ECoS won’t allow you to.
