Welcome at this website / blog. It contains info on the model railway hobby project I’m working on. Who knows some of the info may be helpful to fellow model train hobbyists, or to those who consider picking up this hobby.

The railway hobby to me is more about electronics and (micro) computer control than about being protypical or to have the nicest scenery. A lot of info can be found here on the use of Arduino as a DCC decoder or S88 interface and on Freiwald Traincontroller software for PC layout control.

I also played around with model railroad software simulation. Quite a few videos on Eisenbahn-X, SCARM and Trainz can be found on my Youtube Channel.

I’m member of the Eindhovense Modelbouwvereniging EMV.

    Mede door jouw video’s met heldere uitleg ga ik TC gebruiken om mijn modelbaan te besturen. Ik heb nu een YaMoRC YD7001 centrale. Welke instellingen in TC10 zou je adviseren?

  2. Goede morgen Ruud,
    Je TC video’s volg ik met grote interesse. Heb zelf TC10 gold. Zou jij eens in willen gaan op de Facilities? En dan in het bijzonder de “line Up” facility? Ik kom daar niet uit.

  4. Hello Ruud

    I also enjoy your videos very much, specifically about Traincontroller and DR5000, and it is abot the latter I have a question: I am a member of a club which owns two DR5000 (one in reserve). We have a large modular layout therefore we lokk for a bette WIFI coverage than the DR5000 provides. Is is possible to hook up the DR5000 to a router via the LAN and contact it with the roco WLAN Maus via the router ? This way we search for a lager and stronger coverage for our numer of WLANs ? Our club would be very happy for your support.

    • Hi Lars. I was involved with a club here in Holland who had a similar challenge. It’s a couple of years ago and I completely forgot what and how. I’ve sent out an email to them, I hope to have a reaction within a couple of days.

    • Hi Lars. I had a reply … seems I forgot it was about the Z21, not the DR5000. I have no experience with what I am to propose, but a WiFi repeater / range extender might be an option. If you can get it to listen to your DR5000 WiFi and repeat / extend only that, and not the other WiFi signals around. Should be possible to read that in the manual before buying one.

  5. Hi Rudy< I managed to make a Button Box with 5 axis using your awesome guide. Thank you very much for this. It is so appreciated to you and RBO. I have tried to edit the sketch (RBO) provided but I know just enough to ruin it everytime, lol. Basically all I want is your same sketch but the 2 rotary encoders as simply "Throttle" type pots and no sort of axis manipulation. I simply need a straight throttle type no curve on all five axis would be ideal. Can anyone please help? Ive asked everywhere and this might be my last hope.

  7. Hi Rudy,

    It is with great interest That I have been following your ‘Blog’ and gaining/broadening my knowledge, as a (retired) new comer! Hence, to that end one of your videos showed connecting two Arduino’s to the ESU command station with S88 feedback module. It would be greatly appreciated if you could give/show me as to how to connect the S88 to Arduino and then to base station.

  8. Hallo Ruud,
    Ik gebruik sinds kort TrainController brons. Na een loc op een blok te hebben geplaatst met de juiste rijrichting volgt de afbeelding niet altijd de bezetmelding en verspringt soms random. Wat zou hiervan de oorzaak kunnen zijn?

  9. Hoi Ruud, Dank voor alle Traincontrollers video’s, helaas heb ik een probleem met de adressering van de blokken,
    Ik werk met RT Brons met dr 5000 en dr 4088ln/cs, de 4088 is ingesteld op adres 30 t/m 46
    Welk adres moet ik gebruiken voor de blokken( 30-1 / 31-2/ enz ? ) het blok krijgt geen andere kleur als er een lok op staat.
    Hopelijk kun je wat met deze info

  11. Beste Rudy,
    Ik ben na 20 jaar weer begonnen met de bouw van een nieuwe baan. Ik heb nu de tijd. Traincontroller en Trainprogrammer aangeschaft met de DiCostation van Littfinski plus de nodige terugmelders en functiedecoders van Littfinski. Een KPF roller bank geïnstalleerd. Echter, Ik krijg de locdecoders via Trainprogrammer niet gelezen en dus werkt ook het Run-in programma niet. Zie ik iets over het hoofd of is de Roller Bank niet goed gekoppeld?

Dag Rudy, ik wil gaan beginnen met digitaal rijden, heb een Ecos aangeschaft en kwam jouw geweldig goede filmpjes over Rocrail tegen, wat perfect allemaal uitgelegd, nu wil ik dat gaan gebruiken omdat ik er van overtuigd ben door jouw inbreng me dat gaat lukken. de vraag is nu heb jij een link voor mij waar ik de Nederlandse versie van Rocrail kan downloaden. op de site van Rocrail staan zoveel dingen dat ik niet weet de welke ik moet gebruiken en ook geen Nederlandse versie terwijl jij op de filmpjes te zien toch met Nederlandse instructies bezig bent.Hoor graag vr gr Teuntje

    • Dag Teuntje. Ik denk dat je mij verwart met iemand anders … ik heb geen serie Rocrail filmpjes gemaakt. Ik werk uitsluitend met Traincontroller, daar heb ik wel een stuk of 70 filmpjes over gemaakt. 🙂

    • Hallo Henk, dit is niet het juiste forum maar in het kort; je kunt de taal aanpassen in rocrail programma settings.
      Rocrail ondersteund vele talen. Gr Leen

  14. Hoi Ruud, op mijn nieuwe baan ga ik met Traincontroller aan de slag. Ik ben nu al je video’s aan het doornemen…..:D. Waar kan ik info vinden over schaduwstations? Ik wil dat mijn treinen netjes opgesteld worden en automatisch doorschuiven en vertrekken. Ik hoor het graag. Dank alvast

    • Zie de info en filmpjes over het maken van Schedules. Stel dat het station 6 sporen heeft met ieder twee blokken voor twee treinen achter elkaar, dan maak je de voorste blokken de 6 eindpunten van een Schedule. Treinen zoeken random een vrij blok. Zijn alle 6 voorste blokken bezet dan zal een volgende trein aansluiten, maar die kan dan zijn eindpunt (voorste blok) niet bereiken, zijn schedule blijft dan actief en hij schuift automatisch door naar zijn eindblok zodra de ervoor staande trein daar vertrekt. Het is ook mogelijk om treinen eerst naar spoor 1 te laten gaan, dan naar 2, enz. In de Schedule Rules kunnen regels aangemaakt worden dat lange treinen nooit een te kort blok binnengaan, of wel, maar dan ook het blok erachter bezet houden. Er zijn vele opties, ‘t is een kwestie van ermee spelen en het uiteindelijk zo maken als je zelf het leukst vindt.

  15. Dag Ruud. Ben al n tijd bezig samen met diecprachtige videos van je. Het enige wat ik niet kan vinden is de lengte van blokken. Wel kan ik instellen wanneer en na zoveel cm waar de trein moet stoppen in n blok. Maar de lengte moet toch ingevuld worden, anders kan ik nooit bepalen van bv hoeveel cm van t eind wil ik stoppen.

    I use Traincontroller V9 Gold to control my model railway. And now I started some smaller projects with Arduino (see on youtube “Moba Jo” or https://youtu.be/uxj4bg9qAYU). Now I have a question: What do you think? is it possible to control the Traincontroller SmartHand with an Arduino (perhaps with joystick or something else) and not with a smartphone or tablet? I just want to accelerate or stop trains, no functions, no lights, no signals.

    • I always say ‘anything is possible in software’s, but I would`t know how to tackle this … you’d need a way to talk to the PC browser via WiFi.

  19. Hello Rudy. You don’t know me but I have been watching your “TrainController“ videos for almost a year. I have installed TCG on my layout and it was working fine until recently. I searched the internet for TrainController and found the “ModelRailroadForums.com” which has several topics on T/C. I have tried several times to join this forum but have not had any luck. I enter the requested information but nothing happens. Can you contact the moderator on my behalf and have him contact me via email? My address is. jamesmarek@sbcglobal.net.

    My problem may or may not have already been discussed on that forum. If so I should be able to resolve my issue. If not, I would like to post my problem to see how to fix it.

      • Hello Rudy, My name is Jim and I reside in the US.  About 4 years ago I came across your TrainController tutorials on YouTube.  After watching them I decided to purchase the Gold version for my layout.  I have been working with TC-Gold for about 3 years.  Recently I came across a problem with the COLORS that I can not resolve.The following explains the problem.  ANYTHING  that you can offer for a solution would be GREATLY appreciated.

  20. Dag Ruud, eerst wil ik u bedanken voor de uitstekende video’s van Traincontroller. Sinds enkele weken ben ik er effectief mee bezig en heb mijn volledig plan reeds uitgetekend. Ik zit met het volgende probleem en dat is het volgende: Als ik klik op New Dispacher Window krijg ik mijn railplan niet volledig. Er ontbreken stukken en ik heb geen idee hoe het komt. Ik heb al van alles geprobeerd zonder resultaat. De blokken worden wel weergegeven dat is het rare en ben zo wat einde raad in mijn oplossingen. Heb jij enig idee wat er misloopt?

    Het werken met flexrails is Scarm was al gelukt, maar het antwoord op mijn vraag kan ik nergens op het net vinden: Wat betekent het blauwe driehoekje. Maar het is niet belangrijk hoor. Laat verder maar zitten.
    Heel veel plezier met je hobby en fijn dat jij vraagbaak wil zijn.
