While in the previous video we saw how different block speeds can be managed, this video is about having different stop positions in a block.
For instance, at a station we may want long trains to halt at a different spot than short trains, such that the carriages are always nicely aligned with the platform. And maybe we want a train that is on a ‘drive through’ to stop at the end of the block, if the next block is occupied.
This is all possible, and it is even quite easy to do. After a double click on the block, let’s go to the ‘Block Editor’ tab. With every brake- and stop marker that we create, there is a choice between:
– Head of train
– Middle of train
– Tail of train
– Formula
If we select ‘Middle of Train’, this takes care that trains with different lengths all stop nicely with their mid point at the designated spot at the platform. TC calculates when it needs to start braking and when it needs to halt. Of course this only works when the trains lengths are specified in the Train Properties.
Depending on the layout of the station, ‘End of Train’ may also be a nice option. It can also be useful at industry tracks, when we want to change locs to pick up wagons from a terminal track. That way we always know the last wagon is at a certain spot, no matter the train length.
To have trains that are on a drive through halt at the end of the block, we need to add a second pair of brake- and stop markers. This can be done by first clicking the sensor and then click the new markers. They can be moved both horizontal and vertical to keep good oversight.
The different markers can be allocated to different trains, or different Schedules. Double click the marker and go to the ‘Trains’ or ‘Schedules’ tab to add the ones you want.
The video shows all this.

Hi Rudy , I also would like to express my grateful thanks for all of your videos , they have made the process of setting up Traincontroller so much easier than it would otherwise have been , in fact I reckon that without your Vids I would never have gotten beyond the initial setting up , the model railway world is blessed indeed to have people such as you .
