Traincontroller 20: The Switchboard Editor

The Switchboard will probably be the TC screen where we spend most of the time controlling our layout. Of course the first task to accomplish is for our Switchboard to be able to operate and to indicate everything we need it to. Yet it might also be worthwhile to spend some time to make it look nice.

In video 14 we saw how all the panel colors can be changed and how we could select a different interface look & feel. In this video we’ll have a look at all the options the Switchboard Editor has to offer.

  1. Hi Rudy,
Are there pre defined switch symbols which come with TC gold 9 or do you have to create them all by hand, one at a time? My install does not supply any extras and the folder the editor points to for importing a symbol file is empty.
    Any thoughts?
Love your videos, thanks so much.

  2. Rudy, Your Tutorials are fantastic! You decipher the Users Guide and explain it in a way I can understand. I anxiously await each new tutorial. One I’d like to see you present is how to display separate switchboards on separate display monitors. Maybe even a large touch screen TV with (4) sections. (3) for showing where trains are on the layout and the 4th for controls/engine panels. Maybe through in a tablet for running a yard.

    • You can create multiple switchboards and you can open multiple windows. When you extend you monitor over 2 screens using standard windows functionality, you can drag some windows on the second screen.

  3. I am very grateful for your videos as they have really sold me on TrainController. I have downloaded the free version of TC Gold prior to buying it later this year and I have got on very well with it. One issue though is still eluding me. I would like to have British semaphore signals on my switchboard and wonder if I could use the “symbol” facility to achieve this? I know it would mean drawing a signal in the “off” and then another in the “on” position. But would I be able to link them to a DCC address and operate the signal by clicking on it? Is there another way of achieving this? I note the signals available on TC Gold are just the colour light type but no semaphore ones are available.

    Thank you once again. Les

    • Hi Les. Yes, in TC Gold you can create or edit your own symbols to display on the switchboard, each with an on and off state or even multiple states. They can be used as switches or push buttons or signals and they can all be operated by clicking on them.

Thanks for your reply. The symbol editor on my free version of TC Gold does not appear to be available do I can’t create my own semaphore signals. Is this because the free version has limited functionality? Regards Les

      • I have no idea … as far as I know the demo version is fully functional.
