Traincontroller 29: Start/Finish Operations and Macros

In the previous video we had a look at the LCD counter for ‘running trains’. The counter was triggered via Flagman. The other counter in the LCD panel, the Schedules counter, is triggered directly from the Schedules themselves, using so called Start and Finish Operations.

With every Schedule it is possible to specify a series of Operations to take place when the Schedule starts, before the train leaves. These can be train functions, like putting lighting on or off, or sounds in a sound decoder. It could also be other Operations though, actually the whole list is available via the ‘List’ button.

In a similar fashion Finish Operations can be defined, to be executed when the train has come to a halt at the end of the Schedule.

There may be cases where you like to specify the same list of operations to be used with different Schedules. In stead of having to enter the whole sequence multiple times, it is possible to define a so called Macro. The list of Operations now needs to be entered only once, in the Macro, which we can give an appropriate name. After having defined the Macro, it is now available as an Operation we can use in the Schedule Start/Finish Operations list, or any other Operations list for that matter.

The video shows how to specify a Macro and how it can then be used in an Operations list.

    • Via a little ‘detour’ it is.

First give opening a simulator window a shortcut. To do this click the blue top left tab and click ‘Options’ at the bottom of the dropdown (this is in TC9, in TC8 goto View, Customize Toolbard and menu’s).

Now create a shortcut for opening the Simulator window.

In the Operations list of any element or macro use System Operation > Menu Shortcut Key and change it to the shortcut you just created.

      Succes, Ruud.

      • Hi Ruud,
Thanks for your reply, I am running TC 9.0 A2. But when I go “Options” > Keyboard shortcuts “Customise”> Category “Window Tab”. The option to make any new window is there and /i can create a short cut to open any new type of window but the option to open the simulator is not there. I must be missing something?
        Thanks Malcolm

      • Well … that is strange. With me it does. If you scroll down to the very bottom, does it not say ‘Simulator’?

      • Unfortunately it does not. The last two entries on the list are “New Explorer” and below that is “<<>>”.
I cannot see “Simulator” anywhere in both edit and run mode. My TC9.0 is a fully licensed purchased version, so I guess it should be there?

      • It should definitely be there. Might be a good moment to install 9A3 and see if that solves this. Else, go to classic interface and see if you canfind it there in the view menu, custimize toolbars and menus, …

      • I have had some success, I have changed to classic view and it is there but not in the new Ver 9.0 user Interface. Thank you
