Traincontroller 35: Fast Train Overtakes Slow Train

A quite common situation is that there’s a slow train at a station that wants to go on the move, but that an Intercity is approaching and you want to give this faster train priority to leave the station first.

The trick here is to use a condition in the Route of the slow train that says the Block of the intercity train must be not reserved. That way the slow train’s Schedule or Schedule successor will start, if there’s no condition preventing that and when the Rules are set to ‘Train may stay in start block’. The train will only start driving though when the condition for the Route is met … the intercity Block is not reserved.

The video shows how this can be accomplished.

  1. Hi Rudy

is it possible to get the fast to pass the slow train without stopping the slow train. Let the slow train go down to a very slow speed while the fast train is passing. II have tried various rules but can see how not to reverse the block and route in front of the slow train. I am using v8

    • Without a scheduled stop it’ll be almost impossible. You’ll have to set the ‘look ahead’ of the slow train to 1 block, to prevent it seserving too mch ahead. And you’ll have to set the release of previous blocks and routes on ‘smart upon entry’ to allow the faster train in as soon as possble. But even then I bet you may need at least three blocks in a row for the fast train to pass. A short scheduled stop will do wonders.

    • Double click a train in the list. In the general tab a color can be selected.
Now in the menu View goto switchboard and in the highlighting tab select to use the train color for track highlighting.
